My career journey so far

In 2015, I joined the Nebenberufliches Studium, Master Programme at IBM Germany. See the careers page here: https://www.ibm.com/de-de/employment/students.html, I took part in the Master@IBM scheme working at the ‘Watson IoT Center’ in Munich as a Youth Ambassador (2 years)

The role entailed - Representing the millennial generation in the establishment of a new Business Unit, Collecting and inferring priorities of peers in the design and nature of new global HQ,  Working closely with various departments - HR, Real Estate Operations… and Marketing and Communications Team at the Watson IoT Center

See my ‘Youth Ambassador’ Blogs here: http://www.ibm.com/de-de/blogs/think/2016/09/29/watson-iot-youth-ambassadors/

And my blogs as a ‘Corporate blogger’ - https://developer.ibm.com/code/author/miriam-oglesby/

In March 2018, I secured my role as a Senior Digital strategist at IBM based in Berlin.

How I secured my current job

Nearing the end of my 2 year student contract at IBM, I applied for a new role in the IBM Developer Advocacy team. Since growing my eminence in my role in Munich, the team had already heard of me and my work (not so common for a company with over 350,000 employees) and I was hired!

Biggest achievement to date

Masters (IT Management MSc) in German Speaker at IBM Women in Tech European conference.

My advice to students

Make the most out of your year abroad and enjoy it! This experience widens your perspective and opens doors to all sorts of possibilities.
