Productive companies understand that 'small steps add up to big changes' and our senior corporate mentors can show you which steps to take!
Mentoring is a proven approach that can be an effective method for achieving business growth, and the Aston Centre for Growth, in partnership with the GBSLEP Growth Hub, is now delivering the 'Mentoring for Growth' programme.
This free programme is available to businesses across the GBSLEP area, and gives ambitious business leaders the opportunity to be mentored, for up to 12 months, by senior personnel from some of the UK's most productive companies. The programme offers:
- Access to proven business practices implemented at some of the UK's best companies
- One-to-one mentoring from senior leaders that have the knowledge and expertise to address business challenges and support growth
- Opportunities to network with personnel from corporate Plc companies and SME leaders from across the UK
Backed by BEIS (Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy), and large Plc companies including Amazon, GSK and Siemens, this initiative aims to be a step change in building a cohesive eco-system of UK businesses desirous of pushing the envelope to achieve growth, a cause championed by John Lewis Partnership Chairman Sir Charlie Mayfield. Hear his thoughts about the importance of productivity and what better performing SMEs could do for the UK economy here or visit the Be the Business website for further information about the programme and testimonials.
Registration for the programme is quick and easy and involves;
Application - We'll need some basic information about the person to be mentored and the company to get started.
Review - The programme coordinator will arrange a site visit, or telephone call if preferred, to review your application and better understand your business, the challenges a mentor will address, and the type of person that might be best suited to your business.
Filtering - We'll use the data provided to create a company profile that will form the basis of the criteria used to match you aganist a suitable mentor. Factors such as the mentor's skills, experience and knowledge will be considered at this stage.
Match confirmation - We aim to complete your mentor match within 6-8 weeks after the application review, and will provide a profile of any candidate(s) we feel suit your company requirements. Upon confirmation that you wish to be mentored by the person presented, we'll facilitate an e-introduction so that an initial phone meeting can be scheduled. Successful mentoring involves being open and honest, and the initial call is a great opportunity to discuss how much time is realistic for mentoring activities. We recommend mentoring every 4-6 weeks being ideal but appreciate the frequency and method of mentoring will differ according to schedules.
Second thoughts - Not sure your mentor is quite right? Even though our aim is to get your match right the first time, you'll have the opportunity to be re-matched to an alternative mentor as soon as possible if you feel the person selected is not quite right.
Is the programme suitable for my business?
We find that SMEs with an annual turnover of £2 million or more and 20+ employees are best placed to benefit from this type of initiative. However, applications from businesses with an annual turnover of £1 million and 10+ employees and operating within high growth sectors* will also be considered. We are keen to encourage inclusive business growth and as such, are particularly interested in receiving applications from BAME business owners, or those from other under-represented groups.
*High growth sectors include Advanced Manufacturing, (Aerospace, Rail/HS2, Automotive), Professional Services, Life Sciences, Digital/IT, Cultural & Creative
