About Aston Law School

The Law School at Aston has an established record of excellence in legal education, based on an ethos of strong student support. We are proud of the diversity of our student population and the quality of our teaching which is recognised constantly by our high student satisfaction scores.

Law at Aston was most recently placed 7th in the UK for overall student satisfaction achieving 94% in the National Student Survey, 2018. Our staff are regarded as leaders of legal education (evidenced through national teaching awards, recognition at the highest level by the HEA and by the award of National Teaching Fellowships). Aston University also received the Gold award – the highest possible accolade in the Government’s new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

Aston Law School roots its approach in the business environment. We’ll prepare students for a diverse range of careers in law or in other industries. From intellectual property to corporate governance and commercial law, students have a wide range of options right from the start.

Many of Aston Law School's academics are qualified lawyers, and are passionate about their subjects.

Their active research and publications on the latest national and international legal developments include:

  • How using law proactively can secure a competitive business advantage.

  • Commercial contracting in the global context – comparative contract law, particularly formation and remedies.

  • Diversity and difference in national corporate governance codes and systems of corporate law.

  • New models of financial regulation.

  • The management and commercialisation of intellectual property in the European and ASEAN university environment.

We support students to develop their personal approach and skills, boosting their employability and future careers. As many of our teaching staff have experience practising law, our students are able to learn about the latest national and international legal developments.

Teaching

Our teaching is informed by our research and the latest developments in legal and professional practice. We aspire to provide commercially intelligent legal education, recognising the diverse backgrounds of our students and the programmes on which they are studying.

As well as offering our distinctive LLB Law and LLB Law with Management programmes, we teach on many other degree programmes across the Business School, giving students the knowledge and understanding they need to appreciate the significance of law and regulation in the business world.

Such knowledge and awareness is essential because all businesses, whether local, national or international, operate within a legal framework that encompasses all of their activities, including the way in which the business is structured, contracts with customers and clients, the employment of staff and the design and marketing of products and services
