Biography

Biography

Dr Kristie Thomas joined Aston Law as Senior Lecturer in January 2017. She previously worked as Lecturer in Business Law at Nottingham University Business School from 2008-2016, where she also held the position of Director of Executive MBA Programmes. She also gained her PhD from Nottingham in 2008; her doctoral research concerned the intellectual property system in China following World Trade Organisation accession in 2001, which incorporated surveys and interviews with a variety of respondents, including business and legal professionals in China. She also holds a MA Chinese Studies (with Distinction) from the University of Leeds and her undergraduate law degree was completed at the University of Sheffield.

 

 

Research Interests

Her current research interests combine elements of law and business, reflecting her research interests in international trade, intellectual property, comparative law and business practice more generally. She has a particular interest in Asia, having spent two years based at the University of Nottingham’s China campus from 2004-2006 and having previously also lived in Taiwan for two years.

Teaching Activity

Undergraduate

I am module leader for BL3319 International Commercial Law and Practice and also teach on BL2602 Commercial Law.

Postgraduate

I contribute to the BDK400 MBA Project module for the Aston Online MBA students, as well as supervising MBA projects.

PhD Supervision

I have experience of PhD supervision and I am willing to supervise PhD students in any field of Chinese Law; International Business Law and International Economic Law, particularly the WTO; Consumer Protection; Comparative Law; Intellectual Property Law.

Current supervision: Andrii Zharikov (The Role of Documentary Instruments Dispute Resolution Expertise (DOCDEX) in Resolving Trade Finance Disputes).
