Call for submissions

The Aston India Centre for Applied Research (AICAR) invites submissions for its 2019 conference. The conference will focus on the issues of organizing and managing businesses in the context of rapidly changing Indian business environment. The conference will focus on contextual matters, as they help to better place the research phenomenon and convey a realistic picture of the scene. Establishing the primacy of the context in organizing and managing, this conference seeks to bring together scholars engaged in research on a variety of diverse topics related to the Indian economy.

Given the contextual slant of the conference, academic contributions are invited along the following themes:

  1. Operations management, strategy and HRM in the Indian context
  2. Managing in the age of disruption
  3. Circular economy
  4. Sustainability, CSR and firm performance
  5. Indigenous management approaches
  6. Leadership in present day India
  7. Growth of the Indian MNE
  8. Governance issues in the Indian institutional context
  9. SMEs & family businesses
  10. Entrepreneurship, innovation and fast growth
  11. Networks
  12. Technological development and skills
  13. Managing knowledge work
  14. Management in foreign firms in India
  15. Potpourri

The aim of the 3rd Annual conference is to further build the platform created by the earlier two conferences and to bring the diverse India related research together in order to facilitate future collaborations as well as dissemination of the research. It is key to create such common ground given the rapid changes taking place in the Indian economy and to sustain the interest being created in further interdisciplinary research and collaborations that contribute to the emerging body of knowledge as well as creating links with key practitioners and stakeholders in India and abroad.

During the conference, we intend to organize specific developmental workshops for doctoral scholars and early career academics focusing on careers, publications, funding, and networking, amongst others.

Abstracts of papers (max. 500 words) should be submitted by 30th April 2019 to Mr Krishna Chaitanya Balthu (k.balthu1@aston.ac.uk). Review decision on submissions by 15th of May 2019. Full papers must be submitted by 15th of July 2019. Maximum paper length - 4.000 words (tables, figures and references not included). Papers will be made available on a website for all participants, so that all information can be studied before the small group meetings.

The conference will take place at Aston Business School, Aston University in Birmingham (UK) under the auspices of Aston India Centre for Applied Research (AICAR). Aston Business School is considered one of the UK’s leading business schools. AICAR is one of Aston University’s cross-disciplinary research centres. Bottom of Form

The conference will be held in Aston’s Conference Centre to provide a wonderful environment for learning and research, as well as outstanding conference facilities.

Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK with a population of over 1 million and is reported to have more canals than the city of Venice!  Being situated in the heart of England it is easily accessible by road, train or plane. Britain’s most ethnically diverse city, it has been transformed over the past 20 years with fantastic new developments including Symphony Hall, the Bullring Shopping Centre and internationally renowned restaurants.
