Dr Merali attained Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2011. He became an undergraduate tutor in 2012. In 2013 he took over a struggling practice and guided it to stability, and continues in the role of a Principal General Practitioner where he is also a Postgraduate GP Trainer. In 2015 he was appointed as a Training Programme Director for Postgraduate GP Speciality Training. Having acted as an examiner for the GMC for the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) exam since 2017, Dr Merali was appointed as a Member of the PLAB Question Management Group. In 2018 he was awarded with Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners. Dr Merali leads the Department of Primary Care Education, and is also the Year 3 Lead for the MBChB Programme.
