“This partnership offers a unique and ground-breaking opportunity for local students who would otherwise not have the funding or financial capability to pursue a career in medicine. This benefits the students themselves as clinicians of the future, and also supports the local area through research to improve local outcomes.”
Professor Nick Harding OBE
Chair, Sandwell & West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group
“Birmingham is a city of tremendous vitality and diversity and we are very pleased to support the development of a second medical school in the City. This development offers the opportunity to attract new and exciting local people into the medical profession, deliver new areas medical expertise and research focus and provide further opportunities to improve the health of our many communities.”

"I am a GP Partner working in Birmingham. The development of the new and innovative Aston Medical School in our city is one that is truly exciting to me, and I am sure will provide great benefit to our local communities. The concept of Widening Participation at Aston Medical School will attract local students, (from an underprivileged background), to pursue a career in medicine where they may not have had the opportunity before. I am extremely keen to encourage and teach the new medical students about Primary Care and look forward to supporting them becoming excellent clinicians who can help deliver improved healthcare for our area."
