Why do your KTP with Aston University?

Aston has a great history of recruiting the highest quality graduates to work as KTP Associates, who become desirable employees for any company through the experiences they gain through applying their academic knowledge to a real business situation. The University has worked on around 120 KTPs within Aston's four Schools.

Working on a KTP will give you access to the University’s facilities including state-of-the-art laboratories, library services and range of free professional development courses. Aston also offers support for ambitious KTP Associates who wish to undertake a higher degree during their project.

Accelerate your career

Having a completed KTP project on your CV can greatly enhance your career prospects. A KTP allows you to manage your own challenging project that is central to a company’s strategic development and long-term growth, meaning the tangible benefits can be listed for future employers to see.

KTP also provides a great foundation for recognition amongst the local and national business communities. Working with Aston University provides the chance to engage with Aston’s network of academics and local businesses, whilst the KTP programme offers the chance for national level recognition in the KTP Awards, which showcase success within KTP partnerships.

Develop your professional skills

KTP also provides a great foundation for recognition amongst the local and national business communities. Working with Aston University provides the chance to engage with Aston’s network of academics and local businesses, whilst the KTP programme offers the chance for national level recognition in the KTP Awards, which showcase success within KTP partnerships.

KTP differs from other graduate schemes because it allows Associates to gain personalised on-the-job training and further qualifications. Associates on a project of 12 months minimum are given a budget of £2K p.a and 10% of the overall project duration to further develop their personal and professional skills. Associates manage their own training budget, which means they get to decide the specific courses that will benefit them.

On top of the £2K p.a. training budget, all Associates are also automatically enrolled in the KTP Diploma in Management Programme. The Diploma provides a valuable degree level, industry recognised qualification from the Chartered Management Institute.

Invaluable support from experienced mentors

Working on a KTP at Aston University provides you with a large support network that can be accessed throughout your project. Each KTP Associate will have an academic supervisor to support them throughout the duration of their project, providing access to a wide range of Aston’s facilities and membership of Research Groups. Associates also have an experienced Company Supervisor, a leading figure who will support them in their role. Furthermore, each project has a KTP Adviser, employed by the project funder, who is an experienced business professional with a wealth of valuable experience. They will spend time with the Associate on a regular basis mentoring the Associate and supporting their career and development plans.
