The sixth intake of entrepreneurs on the BSEEN programme has recently undertaken a five-day boot-camp at Aston University.
The BSEEN programme is an innovative scheme offering an attractive package of intensive start up support for new business ventures. The scheme, part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), is a collaborative initiative between Aston University, the University of Birmingham and Birmingham City University, with Aston University as lead partner. BSEEN has been running since October 2012, and so far over 400 individuals have been enrolled onto the programme.
In order to be considered for the programme, applicants have to pitch their business idea to a panel and if successful they are invited to join the 5-day boot-camp. The boot-camp started on 22 September, with a group of 50 recent graduates, and undergraduate students choosing to set up a business as an alternative to a conventional placement year. The participants took part in intensive start-up workshops on a range of topics; including networking skills, objective setting and action planning, finance, marketing and intellectual property. The programme also helps the participants to understand the legalities of setting up a company or registering as a sole trader.
One of Aston University’s participants, Mohsan Hussain, a recent PhD graduate is creating vintage 50’s-style tea sets with a pottery company in Stoke-on Trent, Nicola Salmon is setting up a healthy soup company and three students from the School of Engineering & Applied Science are establishing a software development company.
If you’d like to know more about BSEEN, you can attend the Exhibition and Networking evening which is being held to celebrate the achievements of Birmingham’s latest generation of entrepreneurs, on Thursday 13 November from 5pm til 8pm, at Innovation Birmingham Campus.
Over 30 start-up businesses from the BSEEN programme will be exhibiting during the evening and there will an opportunity to hear from some of the business owners who have recently completed the BSEEN programme. Join the BSEEN team and network with the BSEEN exhibitors and build long lasting business relationships or find out more about becoming a business mentor to a new entrepreneur: the programme is always looking for established entrepreneurs to become mentors, who are keen to share their expertise and knowledge to help the new entrepreneur feel inspired and confident to succeed.
