If you don't have your results, here’s a step-by-step guide to Clearing and how to secure a course that is right for you.
1. Get prepared for Results Day
Right now, you have the luxury of time. Time to think, plan and identify your ideal course, so consider what you will do in all of these scenarios:
Lower Than Expected Grades
What to do
Have a look in advance at the courses listed on our website where the entry requirement is lower than your current offer. Note these down and be ready to get in touch on Results Day.
If you are an Aston applicant, our Admissions team will review your application and may still be able to confirm your place.
We may contact with an alternative course to study. The best thing to do is:
- Check your Track on Results Day to see if a confirmation decision is available
- Check your emails
- Call our Clearing Hotline on Results Day if you want to apply for a different course
Better Than Expected Grades
What to do
If you have exceeded the offer made by your Firm choice, you may be eligible to use Adjustment.
Adjustment is a UCAS process which enables you to hold your Firm place while looking for an offer elsewhere.
Start looking into the courses available in Clearing at Aston and call our Clearing hotline on results day to discuss your Adjustment option.
If you are an Aston Applicant, on results day login to your UCAS track and we will have updated the decision on your application to Unconditional Firm (UF). You will receive an email to confirm the next steps for enrolling at the University.
Change Your Course
What to do
If you have a university place elsewhere, you can apply to study at Aston if you are in Clearing and free from offers.
Look at our courses available in Clearing to see which would be the best fit.

If you are an existing Aston applicant and want to change programme, contact the Admissions Team via email@example.com who will advise you if a change of programme is possible.
2. Get in touch with us
The Clearing hotline opens at 7am, 15 August.
Call us on 0800 917 5923. All we need is:
- Your grades
- Your UCAS number

3. Accept your place on UCAS Track
Once we’ve made you an offer:
- Log onto your UCAS Track account
- add Aston University (A80) and the course UCAS code you have received in your offer email.
Your offer email will state what the deadline is for accepting.
Once you have accepted your offer we aim to confirm your place on the course within one working day if not sooner.
4. Visit campus
A big part of university is where you will study.
We have organised campus and accommodation tours from the main reception on the following dates:
- Thursday 15th August (12.00pm - 7.00pm)
- Friday 16th August (9.00am - 4.00pm)
- Saturday 17th August (10.00am - 2.00pm)
5. Apply for accommodation
Once you have your place confirmed, you can apply for campus accommodation. You will need your Student ID Number.
The ID number will be available to you in your Welcome to Aston Email and all communications you will receive from us once your place is confirmed.
You can secure your room online.
6. Walk-in service
If you live locally and prefer to do things face-to-face, you can drop in on Results Day and have a chat with the Clearing team.
The walk-in service is open on:
- Thursday 15th August (9.00am – 5.00pm)
- Friday 16th August (9.00am – 12.00pm)
