The ILTP is a 20-credit, level 6 Aston Module Achievement (AMA), delivered by the Education Team. We see this module as being about classroom craft and is intended for those members of staff who have little or no previous experience of teaching in higher education. A teaching observation is a requirement on the module and as such participants must make arrangements with their school to ensure that they are engaged in some teaching during the autumn period or spring term (depending on the time of year you take the course).
Enrolment on the ILTP provides an opportunity for staff to engage with the United Kingdom Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF). The UKPSF is a comprehensive, nationally recognised, set of professional standards and guidelines for those involved in higher education (HE).
On completion of the course you should have:
- Developed and demonstrated your knowledge and practical skills as a teacher and supporter of students’ learning in higher education
- Improved your design of teaching sessions through analysis, research and reflection on practice, using concepts and practices drawn from work experience, the literature and from colleagues
- clarified and strengthened underpinning professional values of respect for individual learners; of using the processes and outcomes of research and formal study in professional practice; of supporting diverse and inclusive participation in higher education; and of commitment to your own development.

Who is it for and when is it run?
Postgraduate students and research staff who teach or support students’ learning in higher education contexts. It is also open to those people who intend to take the 60 credit PGCert and would like a general introduction to learning & teaching in higher education.
The ILTP is run in the autumn term; and subject to demand an additional cohort can be offered in the spring. Maximum class size of 25 participants.
