Booking a One-one appointment with the LDC

You can develop your learning through working one-one with LDC Teaching Fellows or a student mentor. Attending a one-one appointment can help you improve your study skills, prepare for an upcoming assignment and improve exam strategies. Areas you might want to discuss include:

  • Maths
  • Academic writing
  • Critical reading and thinking skills
  • Note-making
  • Planning, drafting and editing assignments
  • Referencing and avoiding plagiarism
  • Strategies for improving proofreading skills
  • Improving revision and/or exam strategies
  • Any other academic related issues.

Each appointment is confidential and usually lasts for 30 minutes (one hour with a student mentor). Availability is limited so you need to book in advance by emailing or calling (0121 204 3040). For maths appointments email If maths appointments are full, remember you can visit the maths drop-in service.

LDC Workshops

Each term we run a programme of workshops delivered by experienced study skills tutors and student mentors. These sessions focus on different academic skills areas, including:

  • Reading and note-taking strategies
  • Planning and writing essays, reports and dissertations.
  • Presentation skills
  • Revision tips and preparing for exams.

Workshop sessions involve a combination of group discussions, tutor presentations and small-group activities - they are FREE and available to all Aston students.
