You asked: "How are you helping Aston students and graduates in the recession?"

  • Aston University continues to encourage all eligible students to take a placement year or year abroad. According to government figures released in July 2011 Aston again had the highest proportion of students taking placement years/sandwich courses of any UK University. (HESA PIs 2010). If you are not sure, go and visit the Careers Centre and Placement Office.

  • The University have recently centralised all placement activity and now has a dedicated Undergraduate Placement Team responsible for sourcing and managing placements for undergraduate students, the team will promote placement opportunities to students across all academic areas of the university including Business, Engineering, Applied Science, Languages, Social Sciences and Life & Health Sciences.

  • Managed by Aston University, Graduate Advantage is a regional project that offers graduate internships. In the last eight years the project has supported over 2000 students and graduates across the West Midlands. It is now set to create a further 1400 graduate internships by May 2014.  This project is funded and supported by ten West Midlands' Universities and is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

You asked: "Can Aston help me to enhance my CV in other ways?"

You can get involved in a range of activities, outside of your course of study. Here are a few ideas:

  • Since 2006, more and more Aston students are taking language modules through the University-wide Language programme.

  • Aston University and the Aston Students' Guildoffer career-focused groups and societies  such as Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Aston Bright Futures, along with 80 other clubs, societies and student groups.

  • Student Volunteering, Peer Mentoringand Outreach opportunities have also expanded in 2010-11

  • Our Student Ambassadorand Peer Mentoring Schemes help potential and existing students in many ways - and your involvement will appeal to future employers.
