What is APRS?

Aston Postgraduate Research Society (or APRS) was founded in 2010 with the aim of encouraging collaboration between Schools and - more importantly - to improve the social and academic experiences of research students across the University.  APRS is funded through the University Graduate School and is affiliated with the Students' Union. The society itself is run by a committee of research students who represent the society for their respective School or College: Aston Business School (ABS); Engineering & Physical Sciences (EPS); Social Sciences & Humanities (SSH); Health & Life Sciences (HLS) and Aston Medical School (AMS).

How do I become a member?

You are invited to join APRS during the enrolment or re-enrolment process - free of charge!  We encourage all members to attend our events. We also ask for suggestions for future events and gather feedback on events we have already run, all in the name of helping the event-crafting process to ensure research students are well-catered for.

What does the APRS committee do?

The committee meets every other month to discuss and develop ways that ensure research students are getting a well-rounded and enjoyable experience during their time at Aston University.  A key part of this is organising social and academic events that are tailored to the diverse array of students.

What events do the APRS organise?

The Events Calendar usually includes a Social Welcome in October, a termly Lunch with Professor X, a Christmas Party, Meet 'N' Greets in October, January and April and a Summer Social.

How will I learn about APRS events?

Information on forthcoming events is circulated via your Aston email account, and posted on Twitter and Instagram.  You may also contact your student representative directly by email or pop by one of our offices - we're always happy to talk!

How do I become an APRS committee member?

If you really want to contribute, why don't you join the committee?  We're always looking for new recruits!  If you want to join, please contact a representative of your School's society (see Meet the Committee, above, for contact details).
