Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the continued restrictions around holding large scale events, it is not possible for us to hold in-person graduation ceremonies.

Whilst in-person graduation ceremonies cannot take place this does not stop us from celebrating the achievements of our graduating cohort in other ways. We are therefore delighted to confirm that online graduation ceremonies, will be taking place on Thursday, 15 April 2021.

We are looking forward to marking the fantastic achievements of all of our graduating students and hope to see you there.

We will hold online ceremonies on Thursday 15 April 2021!

Online degree ceremony live streaming

We have created an online ceremony to celebrate the hard work and successes of our 2021 graduates. With messages of congratulations from across the University as well as alumni, we hope you have a great day celebrating. Congratulations from everyone at Aston.

Each graduation ceremony will be streamed live via the Aston University YouTube channel to allow staff, friends and family of our graduating students, and other guests to view the ceremony in real time and join in the celebrations from afar. View the graduation ceremony schedule:

We know many of you would like to get together to celebrate in-person, and we are planning to host a celebratory event, which will take place on campus at a date in the future, once it is safe to do so and when the UK is no longer affected by restrictions on large group gatherings.

What can I expect from the online graduation ceremony?

Students will be invited by email to book through MAP.

You will be allocated to a ceremony date and time and notified of other actions to take in order to access the ceremony on the day.

You will join a Zoom room with other graduates on your course, to give you the opportunity to celebrate with your peers.

The ceremony will follow a similar format as our usual face to face ceremony. Some speeches will be recorded and some will be live, and you can expect your name to be read out live.

You will be visible to everyone on screen at that point, to acknowledge your achievement.

All ceremonies will be accessible via web streaming from our usual site: www.youtube.com/user/AstonUniversity

The event will also be recorded to view later.

Do we need to wear academic dress?

Graduates who attend the online ceremonies are not required to wear academic dress.

However, if you do want to order an academic gown to wear on the day, our gown supplier has put on an offer for the Class of 2021 to have the complete outfit sent to a UK address. You can hire from our gown supplier, Ede and Ravenscroft, via their Gown Hire website: https://graduation-services.edeandravenscroft.com/graduation/

Can I have photographs taken in my gown?

Yes. You can hire your gown direct from our gown suppliers, Ede & Ravenscroft.

What software will I need to join the online graduation ceremonies?

The online graduation ceremonies will be streamed live available to family and friends to view, and students will be invited to join in via Zoom.

Zoom is free software which is accessible via the web, or can be downloaded via the app store zoom.

You will not need to download or have a sign-in, just access the link that will be sent to you nearer the event through a web browser.

The zoom link is for students only; family and friends will view from the 'outside' using the web links on www.youtube.com/user/AstonUniversity which only requires internet access through a web browser.

Will there be a face to face celebration?

We fully appreciate how important it is for you to celebrate your achievements back at Aston. There will be an opportunity for you, to attend a special celebratory event on campus at a date in the future, once it is safe to do so, regardless of whether you attended the online graduation ceremony.

This will happen when the UK is no longer affected by restrictions on national and international travel and large group gatherings.

We will provide further updates when we are able to.

Can I attend the online graduation and still attend the on campus celebratory event as well?
All graduands that are eligible to graduate in April 2021 will be invited to attend a special celebratory event on campus at a date in the future, once it is safe to do so, regardless of whether you attended the online graduation ceremony.
