Frequently asked questions regarding in-person graduation ceremonies

Am I eligible to attend a graduation ceremony?

All students eligible to attend are invited to book a place at a ceremony.

To attend the graduation ceremony you must have passed all elements of your study programme and have these agreed by the appropriate Examination Board. All outstanding debt will need to be paid to be eligible for graduation. To query outstanding debt, please contact fin_operations@aston.ac.uk.

You should not wait for your results before completing your registration task. If you miss the deadline to book we may not be able to allocate you to a ceremony with your course friends or faculty.

When should I expect to receive my certificate?

Degree certificates and final transcripts are dispatched within 3 months from the date of conferral of your award to your home address, however, due to the current climate this might take slightly longer. Please contact Student Records if you have not received your certificate and transcript.

Where will my graduation ceremony be held?

Our ceremonies will be held at the Eastside Rooms, Woodcock Street, Birmingham, B7 4BL.

Do I have to attend my graduation ceremony?

Attendance at your graduation ceremony is optional. You will still receive your certificate and transcript in the post.

Do I need to physically attend a graduation ceremony to access alumni services?

No, once you have completed your studies you will automatically become a member of Aston’s Alumni community - a global network of over 100,000 graduates. You will then have access to a wide range of services and benefits, including continued access to Aston Careers and Placements services. For further information on everything available to our alumni community, visit the Aston alumni webpages.

Is my degree still valid if I don’t attend my graduation ceremony?

Yes, your degree will be valid, and you will receive your degree certificate and transcript in the post.  Degree certificates and final transcripts are dispatched within 3 months from the date of conferral of your award to your home address, however, due to the current climate this might take slightly longer.  Please make sure that your home address details are up-to-date on My Aston Portal (MAP).
