The Peter N Roberts Endowed Bursary is a bursary set up through alumnus Peter Roberts, and is available for Engineering and Applied Science Foundation Programme students. The award is intended to help support at least one student annually, and priority is given to those most in need. The Bursary value varies year to year and multiple Bursaries may be available.
In 2020, we are delighted to announce that up to three individual bursaries of £500 are available and interested candidates should complete the application form by the closing date of 31st October. Priority will be given to those from disadavantaged backgrounds and those who are the first in their family to go to University.

Peter was born and raised in Birmingham. He entered Aston University via a non-traditional academic route and was the first in his immediate family to attend university. His preference would have been to study electrical or electronic engineering but he was only able to obtain sponsorship for mechanical engineering. He faced some academic challenges but he persevered and graduated in 1968.
During his subsequent time in the UK aerospace industry, he gained knowledge in the development and certification of both mechanical and electronic control systems for aircraft engines. In 1982, he was recruited by the civil aviation authority of the Canadian Federal Government in Ottawa. His work as an engine certification specialist involved frequent international travel and participation in technical working groups.
In 2010 he established a bursary in his name to help support students who came from a similar background and who shared his enthusiasm for engineering.
