Dr Kirill Tokmakov

Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT)

AIPT Research fellow

Before joining AIPT I worked in Russia and the United Kingdom in the Advanced LIGO project dedicated to detection of gravitational waves emitted by massive astronomical sources. My work was always linked with fused silica fibres used for suspension of test masses (interferometer mirrors) of aLIGO interferometer. I received my PhD in experimental physics at Moscow State University in the group of quantum measurements leadded by Prof. V.B. Braginsky under the supervision of Prof. V.P. Mitrofanov. We studied the physics of mechanical systems with extremely small dissipation and their interaction with electrical and optical systems.

Here at AIPT I study optomechanical interactions between acoustic and electromagnetic whispering gallery modes in SNAP microresonators.
