  • 2013-2016       Mr Slobodan Sirovica – Investigating glass - polymer dental composites.  Funded by the Science and Technologies Facilities Council global challenges studentship.
  • 2013-2016       Ms Farah Raja – Developing antimicrobial glasses to treat long term urinary tract infections.  Funded by Insight Health Limited.
  • 2015-2016       Mr Lucas Pereira Lopes de Souza - In vitro effects of a Niobium-doped bioactive glass  on osteoblastic viability, proliferation rate and maturation. Funded by Science without Boarders Scheme (Brasil).
  • 2015- 2018      Mr Louis Forto Chungong – Fabricating and characterising glasses for biomedical applications.

  • 2017 Our paper entitled Atomic structure of Mg-based metallic glasses from molecular dynamics and neutron diffraction has been accepted for publication in Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics
  • 2017 an I18 experiment at the Diamond Light Source (March),
  • 2017 Slobodan Sirovica has won the prestigious International Paffenbarger award. The Paffenbarger award recognises the best student research paper in the field of dental materials. Slobodan is the first ever winner from the UK – many congratulations! 
  • 2017 Our work “Defining the impact of paternal diet on offspring bone health” has been published in the X-ray and Magnetic Scattering Beamline newsletter.
  • 2016 My AMR4AMR teaching replacement application has been successful.
  • 2016 Our group attended the Society of Glass Technology centenary / European Society of Glass annual meeting in Sheffield 4 th -8 th September. Excellent presentations from Farah, Louis and Lucas.
  • 2016 Hawshan Mustafa from University of Jena visits our group for 3 months.
  • 2016 Our AMR4AMR visiting fellowship grant has been successful.
  • 2016 Dr Richard Martin has won the Aston achievement award for research.
  • 2016 our paper entitled Understanding Bioactive Glasses at the Atomic Scale: the Complementary use of Advanced Probe and Computer Modelling Methods has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Applied Glass Science
  • 2016 Jodie's paper entitled Probing crystallization of a fluoro-apatite - mullite system using neutron diffraction has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids.
  • 2016 Dr Richard Martin attended the 24th International Congress on Glass in Shanghai, China from April 7th to 11th to accept the Gottardi and give a presentation
  • 2016 Dr Richard Martin has been selected as the 2016 Vittorio Gottardi Prize winner.
  • 2016 Karan Rana passes his PhD viva – many congratulations! 
  • 2016 Sarah's paper has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, Slobodan and Richard are co-authors.
  • 2016 Saima Begum’s paper on The influence of pH and fluid dynamics on the antibacterial efficacy of 45S5 Bioglass was accepted for publication in Biomedical Materials.
  • 2016 Richard Martin has been appointed deputy director of the Aston Research Centre for Healthy Ageing (ARCHA).
