I sit within two subject groups at Aston, the Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry (CEAC) group and Engineering Systems management group. I am currently the Programme Director for CEAC and the University wide Qualified Teaching Status courses.
I teach mathematics, biology, chemistry, sustainability and CSR, to BSc and MSc students, and supervise research projects from BSc to PhD level.
At School level, I am the Associate Dean for Student Experience. This role enables me, along with a dedicated and committed team, to develop and deliver an excellent “student experience” for our students. I am also the School lead on placements and employability. Although engaged in research in the Science fields, I am now focussing on Learning and Teaching and pedagogical research.

Whilst my research focus is now primarily on learning and teaching research, I am also quite happy to collaborate with colleagues within my discipline when asked.
I have listed below some projects I have been involved with recently.
Investigating the use of the bio-char in the production of activated carbon filters for the removal of pollutants from agricultural runoffs in India.
I am running a pilot project in collaboration with colleagues from LHS studying the possible effect of diet on a student’s performance and achievement.
Another one of my main areas of interest relate to the BME student experience. I am particularly interested in investigating the continued ‘attainment gap’.
Since joining Aston I have successfully supervised one PhD student, Jennifer Allen, Utilistation of Analogous Climate Locations to Produce Resillient Bioddiversity Plantings for Infrastructure Developments. Awarded PhD March 2014.
