Yuqing joined Aston University in March 2015 as a lecturer in School of Engineering and Applied Science. Prior to that, he was a research scientist at Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), USA. Yuqing received his PhD degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University under supervision of Prof. Robert L. Lytton. He was awarded BSc and MSc degrees from Southeast University in Nanjing, China.

Yuqing is now leading an infrastructural material research at Aston Institute of Material Research (AIMR). His research is focused on durable, renewable and intelligent transport infrastructures and materials. The current topics include:

  • Advanced mechanics and multiphysics modelling of construction materials
  • Road infrastructures and environments for building an advanced performance prediction system
  • Multiscale modelling of bitumen, asphalt, base and subgrade materials for building durable roads
  • Renewable biomass and waste derived construction materials for building sustainable roads, and
  • Intelligent road sensing and nondestructive evaluation technologies for building smart cities
