I joined the department of Engineering and Applied Science in September 2009 from Sterling Power Group as a teaching fellow on the work based Electrical Power Foundation Degree. I became the Programme Director of all three streams of the programme (Transmission, Distribution and Power Systems Management) in 2014. Along with colleagues I have helped to develop a successful programme which meets the needs of UK Transmission and Distribution Network Operators and is accredited by the IET. The programme currently takes students from National Grid, Western Power Distribution and Scottish and Southern Energy.
My industrial and education experience has given me a valuable insight into student and employer perspectives of work based learning programmes.
I am presently the Programme Director of the Foundation Degree in Electrical Power Engineering (Transmission, Distribution and Power Systems Management). I also teach and contribute to modules associated with the Foundation Degree Engineering and the BEng in Electrical Power Engineering.
Since 2009 I have designed, taught and assessed material on the following Aston University modules:
Taught specialist subjects have included but not limited to earthing, insulators, per-unit analysis, symmetrical and asymmetrical faults analysis.
I have acted as module leader, taught and assessed material for the following modules:
Research interests include engineering pedagogies in Higher Education, dynamic asset rating of electrical power equipment and the transition of the UK electrical power network to a smart city networks.
2017 – Present: Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)
2011 – 2013: Member of the Institute for Learning.
2003 – Present: Eng-Tech member of Institute of Engineering and Technology
