The International Recruitment and Development teams support the University’s internationalisation agenda through student recruitment, partnerships, transnational education and staff and student mobility.
Aston’s commitment to internationalisation extends across all our Academic Schools where staff are engaged with the promotion and progression of internationalisation. Below you can see a profile some of the key staff members within these areas:
Erasmus+ Mobility Coordinator
Amanjot oversees outbound Undergraduate Erasmus+ mobility and maintains communication with exchange partners, providing support and advice to students along with managing the payments and invoicing.
Erasmus+ and International Partnerships Assistant
Andrew manages the Erasmus+ mobility for postgraduate students, incoming/outgoing staff members as well as for Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility. Andrew is also responsible for managing the partner university summer school page and the incoming exchanges factsheet.
Regional Manager (South East Asia)
Anisha is responsible for and actively manages the South East Asia market with a focus on recruiting students from key countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Singapore. Anisha promotes Aston University at key events, working with agents, partners, and other key stakeholders within the South East Asia market.
Regional Manager (Africa)
Babs is responsible for the Africa market with a focus on recruiting students from countries such as Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya. Babs promotes Aston University at key events, working with agents, partners, and other key stakeholders within Africa.
International Student Recruitment Officer
Bea supports the University agent management activities globally and assists in the implementation of Aston’s student recruitment strategy in the UK. Bea also provide organisational support for key international recruitment events and activities.
Head of International Operations LHS (Associate Dean International)
Bhavisha is responsible for the entire international portfolio for the school of Life and Health Sciences, including partnerships, student exchanges and transnational programmes. Bhavisha provides leadership, strategic and operational management for LHS in relation to the University Strategic Plan and International Plan, and supports the Executive Dean in the achievement of the objectives agreed for LHS. Member of the PVCIs group of ADIs with overarching responsibility for implementing School based actions to deliver on objectives and targets.
Dr Fiona Lacey
Associate Pro Vice Chancellor International
Fiona works alongside the academic and administrative teams at Aston University and its collaborative partners to help assure partnership relations and academic quality.
Dr Kate Sugden
Deputy Dean, Enterprise and International, School of Engineering and Applied Science
Kate has worked in engineering education since 2004 and is a passionate believer in problem based learning and developing the employability of students. She oversees International and Enterprise relationships and initiatives for the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
International Student Recruitment Officer
Hristina is responsible for coordinating the University international recruitment engagements in the UK and Europe. She also drives and oversees the general agent management activities within the International Office.
Irina is involved in almost every aspect of the everyday operations of the International Recruitment Office. She also assists the department with the organisation of events on and off campus. Irina can organise a bespoke schedule for prospective students as well as campus tours for incoming visitors.
Global Pathways Development Manager
Jane works with pathway partners to facilitate the progression of international students coming to continue their studies at Aston. She works closely with a range of key stakeholders internally and a range of external teaching providers of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
International Relations Manager
Jessica builds and maintains relationships between Aston and our international exchange partnerships, working alongside each of the Academic Schools. Jessica is also responsible for the University’s overarching Erasmus+ staff and student mobility programme.
Julie provides administrative support to Saskia Hansen, Pro-Vice Chancellor, International, as well as to the International Development Team. Julie also works closely with Simon Green, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research.
International Programmes Development Manager
Junying supports development of a portfolio of high quality taught programmes across the University delivered in collaboration with strategic international partners. She identifies, facilitates, coordinates and develops successful models for teaching partnerships at undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education/continuing professional development levels including development of articulation agreements.
Junying Manages the Chinese MoE approved Joint Programme in BSc in Construction Project Management with Northeast Forestry University and coordinates the Aston International Summer School.
Director, International Student Recruitment
Matt leads Aston’s global international student recruitment strategy. The International Student Recruitment Team is the key point of contact for prospective students, their parents and key influencers, advising on all matters related studying at Aston University. Matt’s team operates globally to promote Aston and welcomes the opportunity to engage with new and existing recruitment partners.
Associate Dean International for the School of Languages and Social Sciences
Patrycja specialises in developing and maintaining relationships between Aston’s Languages and Social Sciences subject groups and international partners. The main focus is on Europe and North America within areas of political sciences, international relations, sociology and history.
Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor International (India)
Pawan is a Professor of International HRM at Aston Business School, an Associate Pro Vice Chancellor International (India), Aston University and the Joint-Director of Aston India Centre for Applied Research, Birmingham, UK. He is also the Co-Editor-in-Chief of British Journal of Management. He is responsible for developing partner collaborations in India and leading on Aston’s India strategy.
Professor Frank Austermuehl
Frank Austermuehl is Professor of Modern Languages with a chair in Translation Studies. He also serves as Deputy Dean of the School of Languages and Social Sciences and as such is responsible together with the Associate Dean International for the international strategy of the School.

Saskia Loer Hansen
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement)
Saskia Loer Hansen is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) at Aston University with responsibility for business and civic engagement, international and marketing, development and alumni relations, and for the University’s student support functions. Prior to this appointment, Saskia held the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor International at Aston for two years, and maintains a strong interest in the University’s internationalisation agenda.
International Relations Manager (Aston Business School)
Selena manages Aston Business School’s international relations – from student and staff exchange agreements, to double degrees, articulations, international partnership networks and collaborative projects. She is responsible for the Aston International Summer School’s website and a number of international elements of the Business School’s online presence.
Regional Manager South Asia
Thomas has overall responsibility for South Asian student recruitment. This includes management of Aston’s Indian recruitment team, developing and maintaining our network of agents across South Asia, representing the university in the region and advising colleagues within the university on qualifications and trends from the regional.
Director, International Development
Wendy is responsible for providing a key lead for the University’s international collaborations and partnerships. She works closely with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor International and the senior management team on the University's global engagement strategy and is a key member of the University’s International Strategy Committee, which ensures that the strategic direction includes international student experience at the heart of the University.
Yuliya is responsible for student recruitment in the Middle East (Except Saudi Arabia), Egypt, Western and Central Asia and former CIS Countries, including Russia; she also works closely with the colleagues to support the partnerships in those regions. Yuliya manages the relationship between sponsors and the University and is also the University contact for the external UK MENA Network.
