Country information

English Language Requirements

For entry onto an undergraduate or postgraduate taught degree a grade of C6 or higher is generally accepted from English Language in the West African Secondary School Certificate in Education.

For entry onto the MBChB a minimum grade of C4 in English Language in the West African Secondary School Certificate in Education is required.

International Foundation Programme

If you don’t have the entry requirements for an undergraduate course, you can study a one-year International Foundation Programme at Aston University.

Students who have the West African Senior Secondary Certificate in Education may enter the International Foundation Programme and would require an average of eight subjects at C6 and above, which must include subjects that are relevant to the degree programme. 

Undergraduate

Students who have the West African Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (WASSCE) will be required to complete a recognised foundation programme.

Postgraduate (Masters)

You should have a degree from a Nigerian university recognised by the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) and the specific percentage requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Nigerian university from which you have graduated. In general applicants should have completed a Bachelors honours upper second-class degree.

If you are applying for finance, engineering or science-based subjects, you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.

There are a number of conversion courses in the Business School which will accept students from any subject background. 

Postgraduate (MBA)

You can apply for the MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of three years post-graduation managerial work experience. You should have completed should have completed a Bachelors honours upper second-class degree from a recognised Nigerian university.

Postgraduate (Executive MBA)

You can apply for the Executive MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of five years post-graduation managerial work experience. You should have completed a Bachelors honours upper second-class degree from a recognised Nigerian university. This programme takes 2.5 years in total and is taught in blocks of six days at a time. You will have to travel to the United Kingdom six times per year.

Postgraduate Research

Each of Aston's schools of study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more.

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers.
