Student Nominated for National Award

An Aston University student has reached the final stage of a prestigious national award in recognition of his contribution during his work placement.

Alex Marsh, Psychology student from the school of Life and Health Sciences has been shortlisted in the Best Placement Student category in the National Placement and Internship Awards (NPIAs) 2013.

The NPIAs Best Placement Student category recognises the outstanding contributions students have made towards their teams and department or the business as a whole.

Alex worked as a Clinical Assistant Psychologist in the Neuropsychology department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The judges were impressed with his efforts towards improving existing practices and procedures at the hospital. Alex improved the work efficiency of Neuropsychologists by re-organising administrative systems, setting up databases for referrals and recording systems for patient information.

Alex has also received a Life and Health Sciences Placement Award for Excellence as part of the Aston University placement awards.

Speaking about his nomination Alex Marsh said; Im honoured to be have been nominated let alone reach the final stages for this award. I wouldnt have had this opportunity without the support from both my placement supervisors and the Placements Team at Aston University. The integrated placement programme that Aston provides is amazing; it has enabled me to develop new skills, whilst networking within the world of clinical psychology

Etta Parkes, Head of Placements said; Alexs placement experience with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital exemplifies the benefits that our integrated placements provide for our students, not only do they gain real hands onexperience in an organisation they also become more commercially aware and gain invaluable employability skills.

The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony held on the 15th February in London.
