The Wellcome Trust Laboratory for Magnetoencephalographic (MEG) studies is home to a number of research groups each with the aim of visualising brain function on a millisecond by millisecond time scale.
MEG is the measurement of the magnetic fields naturally present outside the head due to electrical activity in the brain. The technique is completely non-invasive and harmless.
The research projects range from tracking the volley of neural activity that takes place within the first 500 milliseconds of visual or somatosensory stimulation to pre-surgical identification of epileptic foci.
