I joined the School of Life & Health Sciences on 1st April 2011 as a visiting senior lecturer in clinical pharmacy. I work part-time for the University and part-time for Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) where I am Director of the Academic Practice Unit (APU). I joined BCH in 2006 after spending a couple of years as Head of Medicines Management at Sandwell PCT. Before then i worked for 20 years in the pharmacy at Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trustl. I graduated from Aston Uni in 1981, did my pre-reg at Good Hope Hospital and then spent 18 months in community pharmacy before moving to Sandwell. I am a scientific member of the Clinical Research Network: Children, Pharmacy & Pharmacology Clinical Study Group; a member of the NICE Medicines Optimisation Guideline Development Group; member national steering group Medicines Safety Thermometer; past Chair of the West Midlands Clinical Pharmacy Group (Acute Trusts).
I teach clinical pharmacy / medicines management topics to the MPharm and OSPAP programme. I am the Programme Director for both the PharmD programme and the Postgraduate Certificate in Independent Prescribing (Pharmacists) programme.
I supervise or co-supervise 5 PhD students and 4 PharmD students, investigating a wide range of pharmacy related topics.
