Early career researchers from UK universities and biomedical research institutes are invited to apply for funding to participate in a workshop to be held January 29-February 2, 2017 in South Africa. The workshop is the first milestone in an effort funded by the British Council to tackle the problem of Obesity in Egypt, South Africa, and the U.K. through collaborative basic and clinical studies in the fields of obesity and exercise research. The workshop will focus on the role of mitochondria, including high resolution functional and morphological assessments of mitochondria in the context of exercise and obesity. The workshop is entitled “Enhancing mechanistic understanding of exercise and obesity: designing personalised intervention strategies” and aims at building a network of researchers and clinicians from the three countries to address the obesity challenge.
