As well as all the normal services offered to full-time students based at Aston, we can also offer you some additional services. 

Library SmartSearch: Search for books, journal articles and more!

Library SmartSearch allows you to search across our collections of quality research resources.

LibGuides are a set of web pages for your subject area.  They tell you which relevant sources you can use to find a wide range of information including book titles, journal research, financial data, business intelligence that are not listed in Library SmartSearch.

As an Aston University student you are provided with a username and password.  The Aston username and password allows you to access the University services and the library research databases.  Please view the short tutorial for accessing Library SmartSearch off-campus 

If you experience problems accessing the Library databases, e-books, journal articles or other research material, please  contact the Library for support.  You may also find it useful to copy your screen and send us the error message you are experiencing so we can trace the fault.  You can do this with "Screen-O-Matic" - a free screencasting software.  Please send the link to the screencast in an email so that we can get back in touch with you.

  • If you are a part-time student, on a distance learning course, on your placement or have a disability or additional need, you can ask the Library staff to post books out to you. Details of this service are available here.
  • You can request a scanned copy of journal articles and book chapters from Library stock.  If the item is available in the Library to be scanned, the scanned copy is normally sent to your Aston email address within 1 working day.  Details of this service and costs are available here.
  • You can request a copy of journal articles that are not available at Aston through the Inter-Library Loans service.
