Aston LSS invites you to have a go at speechwriting and win a funded place at the Speechwriters and Business Communicators Conference at Magdalene College, Oxford, an event organised by the European Speechwriter Network.

Speechwriting is a specialist expertise delivered by highly-skilled people. Speechwriting is not a qualification acquired in school: experts come from many backgrounds and learn the necessary skills on the job.

Would you like to get an insight into this vocation and meet some of the best speechwriters in Europe?

If you want to take part in the contest, you will need to prepare and deliver a 10-minute speech in one of the following categories:

Business: A speech of a CEO of a UK based multinational company whose main business interests are in mainland Europe, following the triggering of Article 50.

Politics: The speech Theresa May would deliver on the day when Article 50 is supposed to be triggered.

The speeches will be judged by Aston academics and students.

How to apply:

The winner and runner up will receive full funding to take part in the prestigious Speechwriters and Business Communicators Conference in Oxford on 30 March 2017. The event is organised by the European Speechwriter Network.

At the event you will have a chance to

  • Meet top speechwriters from Europe and the rest of the world.
  • Get insights into rhetoric from top writers
  • Listen to outstanding public speakers including Jörg Hackeschmidt (Speechwriter to the German Chancellor) David Vigar, (Former Editor-in-Chief, BP) and Geoffrey Mamdani (European Commission)
