Dr Jonathan Cox
Lecturer in Microbiology
School of Life & Health Sciences
Jonathan's research focuses on the discovery of new antibiotics and identifying the exact mechanism by which those antibiotics kill bacteria. Finding new mechanisms of action reveals new drug targets to be exploited in the battle against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) which, every year, causes around 700,000 deaths worldwide and costs billions of pounds. New antibiotics and better understanding of how to use them helps to slow the progression of AMR, saving countless lives in the future.
- Jonathan is available to provide comment on both written and broadcast media.
Areas of expertise
