Alumnus crowned one of the UK’s top marketers

A high-flyer graduate entrepreneur from Aston Business School has been named as one of the youngest of 30 top marketers in the country by The Marketing Academy, Britain’s leading professional body for marketing.

Adam Henderson, aged 25, from Birmingham, was selected as one of 30 scholars from over 400 nominations, following a rigorous eight-week selection process by The Marketing Academy, as part of its Marketing Hall of Legends’ (MHL) intensive coaching and mentoring scheme.

“I am absolutely delighted,” said Adam. He added:

“I have worked enormously hard to get where I have, but getting here would not have been possible without the support of my family, friends and of course my foundations at Aston Business School, where I studied Management and Strategy (MAS) as well as gaining a whole host of life skills that have helped in my professional career.”

The MHL scheme is designed to help solve the problem of succession planning in marketing teams by developing the expertise and vision of young marketers. Adam, as well as his fellow 29 marketing scholars, will receive a year’s worth of teaching and mentoring from a list of distinguished marketers, professional leadership coaches and prominent personalities from marketing academia.

The scholars will also benefit from up to 12 face-to-face sessions with marketers and leaders drawn from a variety of professional sectors and up to four lunch sessions, in which small groups are hosted by a leading business figure. For example, in a few weeks Adam is due to meet Mark Howe, the Managing Director of Google, the universal search engine. There will also be one-day workshops on a number of key marketing disciplines, including marketing strategy, direct marketing, digital and public relations.

Soon after graduating in July 2008 from Aston Business School, Adam quickly secured a place on the graduate scheme at Jaguar Land Rover, where he was promoted to the position of National Dealer Marketing Manager after only 18 months at the automotive giant, then aged just 23.
In this interview Adam Henderson talks about his career journey so far and his involvement in the Marketing Academy.

In his current role, Adam is responsible for the creation and delivery of all communications across all channels, both print and online, for all of UK’s 90 Jaguar dealerships, to increase sales. He manages a team of 18 staff.

Before joining Jaguar Land Rover, Adam spent time in public relations at the Volkswagen Group, working in one of the busiest automotive press offices on everything from the launch of new cars to the provision of cars for Top Gear live to play life-size football.

The Marketing Academy whose mission is “to inspire and develop the marketing talent of today to become the leaders of tomorrow”, consists of 80 world-class mentors, 26 coaches, 18 judges, 30 companies and 28 charities. Its founder and chief executive is Sherilyn Shackell.
