The Vietnamese Vice-Minister of Education and Training (MOET) has visited Aston University to discuss future collaboration opportunities between the Vietnam government and the University.
Dr Tran Quang Quy, on his first ministerial trip to the UK, met with Aston Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julia King and key academics, researchers and students at Aston. The high profile visit was aimed at developing stronger international links for Vietnam, in particular the aim of developing an international standard state university for the country.
The Delegation, which also included senior MOET representatives and members of the British Council, toured Aston’s campus to meet with key University representatives and to visit Aston’s new engineering laboratories among other facilities.
Dr Tran Quang Quy was particularly impressed by Aston’s reputation on the international stage, its strong links between academia and business and its development of an Engineering Academy for 14 to 19 year olds. He also singled out for praise the Institution’s warm welcome towards its international students.
Dr Quy, Vice-Minister for Education and Training, said: “Aston University is a very established name within the International higher education community and we hope the Institution will play a key future role in the development of an international standard state university in Vietnam.
“I’ve been extremely impressed with Aston University, in particular its strong international reputation, and its strong commitment to employer engagement and student employability. These are all models of excellence that we would like to develop in Vietnam.
“Currently over 50 students from Vietnam are studying at Aston University, which highlights the excellent work which goes into making international students feel welcome. It certainly reassures families that their sons and daughters are being well looked after while studying so far away from home.”
Professor Gina Rippon, Aston University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) said: “The main focus of the visit was to discuss how Aston could potentially take part in the ‘Vietnam UK International Standard State University’ project. We have had some extremely positive discussions and we look forward to continuing our work with Vietnam both now and in the future.”
