Aston University has strengthened its links with Hong Kong and China through two new higher education partnership agreements.

The collaborations with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HK PolyU) are designed to increase research collaborations, exchange opportunities and education strengths across science, business and engineering disciplines.

Professor Julia King, Aston University Vice Chancellor, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with both universities to further increase partnership links across all of Aston’s  subject areas. During her visit to Hong Kong and China, Professor King also  met with members of the UK Trade and Industry and Chamber of Commerce. Nearly 700 students from Hong Kong and China are currently studying at Aston University with an increasing number of Aston students also opting to take placement and exchange opportunities abroad at partner institutions.

Professor King, said; “We have several research collaborations in place with both institutions across business, engineering, health and language disciplines. For example, Aston optometrists are currently working with counterparts in Hong Kong to research myopia – short sightedness. These latest agreements with two leading Hong Kong Universities will also strengthen exchange opportunities for students, staff and researchers.”

Aston’s two new Hong Kong partnerships will also investigate potential new areas of collaboration including the delivery of professional engineering programmes and areas of health research including Parkinson’s disease and cholesterol.
