Marketing Chief Executive to give MacLaren Lecture

Sir Martin Sorrell, Chief Executive and Architect of WPP, will deliver this year’s MacLaren Memorial Lecture at Aston University on Monday 22nd April at 6.30pm.  Register now for this free event

In his topical lecture, ‘Challenges of the new global economy’, Sir Martin will talk about the threats to the global economy, the specific issues faced by the UK and Europe, and how growth can be fuelled.

WPP is world leader in advertising and marketing services. Under Sir Martin’s leadership, WPP has become the world’s largest communications services group, with over 162,000 people working across some 150 companies in 110 countries.

Sir Martin actively supports the advancement of international business schools, advising Harvard, IESE, and Indian School of Business, among others. Sir Martin is Chairman of IBAC London, IBAC Rome and IBAC Jerusalem.

The MacLaren Memorial Lecture is an annual free event held in partnership with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) to commemorate the life of James MacLaren, one of the most eminent industrialists in Birmingham’s history. MacLaren was one of the founding members of the Birmingham branch of the Chartered Management Institute and was the first Chair of the Birmingham College of Technology, an antecedent of Aston University. He was particularly known for developing links between industry and education. The event has run since 1953, and has attracted major speakers from business and industry.

The free lecture will begin at 6.30pm in the Main Building, Aston University, Birmingham and is open to all. Car parking is available on campus.
