An Aston University student has been crowned the National JobShop Winner 2013.
Eleanor Bacon received the Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) National JobShop Award at an awards dinner in Birmingham in July
The SEOTY Awards recognise and promote the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who combine part-time work with their study commitments. The annual event is sponsored by the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES).
Business and International Relations student Eleanor worked part time at the Aston University JobShop as an Assistant and later progressed to Marketing Executive.
During her time at JobShop Eleanor excelled by developing an innovative new online recruitment tool for the JobShop, the two-tiered ‘Matching Service’, a tool which links students to local businesses.
Judges were impressed with her drive and enthusiasm. The tool has since continued to receive great acknowledgement from employers.
Cathy Laird, Job Shop Cordinator, said; "Eleanor's exceptional contribution to the JobShop, and her passion for the promotion of students has been invaluable. Her hard work has further raised awareness of the JobShop amongst employers, and the University. Being a student herself she showed great empathy towards students allowing her to fully understand the financial pressures of student life and need for work experience
Eleanor added; "My part time work has enhanced my employability skills and increased my confidence in the workplace. The role provided an excellent opportunity to practically apply my growing business knowledge from my studies to a working environment. I have made some fabulous friends and it has prepared me for going into the graduate working world."
The winners were announced at The SEOTY Awards Dinner held at Caxton House, Birmingham, on Thursday 11th July 2013.
