Aston courses among the world's university elite

Aston has two subjects ranked in the top 150 in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Aston University has two subjects featured in this year’s influential QS World University Rankings by Subject, with Accounting & Finance and Politics & International Studies both rated between 101-150 Institutions globally for 2012-2013.

The QS World University Rankings is an annual league table of the top 700 universities in the world and one of the best-known and respected rankings of its kind. The report analysed over 68 million citations and the provision of 8,391 programmes were verified. A global survey of nearly 50,000 academics and graduate employers was also undertaken to compile the report.

It is another success for Aston University, which ranked 27th overall in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2014 with three subject areas rated among the UK’s top 10.These were Ophthalmics (equal 2nd); Marketing  (5th); Pharmacology & Pharmacy  (7th). Aston was ranked 15th in the UK for ‘graduate prospects’.

QS in partnership with the Guardian also ranked Aston 47th in a new index of the world’s leading universities under the age of 50 in its 2012 league table. In the UK alone, there are 98 post-1961 universities.

Aston began as the Birmingham Municipal Technical School in 1895, evolving into the UK’s first elite College of Advanced Technology in 1956. Aston University’s Royal Charter from Queen Elizabeth II was formally sealed in April 1966.
