Aston University has received a prestigious ‘green’ award in recognition of its wide range of environmental management and sustainability initiatives.
Aston has secured recertification of the EcoCampus Platinum Award – the highest level attainable in the international environmental management ratings system, which is specifically tailored for the higher education sector.
Aston is one of only 13 universities nationwide to achieve Platinum standard.
EcoCampus is designed to help put in place the necessary systems and procedures to ensure that Universities are monitoring and minimising their impact on the environment. This covers areas as diverse as the use of natural resources, handling and treatment of waste, sustainable procurement and energy consumption.
Throughout the last year Aston University has implemented a number of green initiatives which have helped increase the university’s ‘green’ performance, these include:
Aston University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Dame Julia King said; “It is wonderful that Aston has maintained this prestigious standard as one of the leading sustainable Institutions in the UK. This success builds on our impressive First Class Green League placing and confirms our commitment to embed sustainability into everything we do at Aston University.”
Aston University first joined the EcoCampus scheme in 2008, working through the four stages of EcoCampus, to first achieve platinum status in October 2012.
