10,000 Small Businesses Partnership Success

GEM Report 2013

27 June 2014

Rob Mannion, RNF Digital Innovation, and Paul Little, Coen Ltd, met as fellow participants on the second cohort of the Midlands 10,000 Small Businesses programme at Aston Business School.

As well as the immediate impact on their individual businesses, the two companies have also joined together to develop a new app which has already delivered improved profitability and £100,000 cost savings per annum for Coen Ltd.

Whilst working together on the programme, the two company owners developed a good insight into each other’s businesses and it didn’t take Paul long to start seeing the potential of using mobile technology in his construction business. That’s how the partnership began and now Coen’s labour force is reaping the benefits of a user-friendly tool, replacing the former, complicated, paper-based system.

Both Paul and Rob attest to the fact the partnership would never have developed without the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses programme.

“It brought two completely different businesses together and because of the way the programme is structured, meant we had a good understanding and trust between us from the start,” explained Rob.

They also speak in glowing terms of the wider benefits the programme has brought to their businesses more generally.

Paul commented that the programme was: “challenging, inspiring and enlightening." He added: "We are no longer a business stuck in the past doing what we have always done. The opportunities ahead of us seem almost endless and the future is exciting.”

“The programme itself has had a far greater impact than we ever anticipated and opened our eyes to rapid growth through investment and gave us invaluable support, workshops and access to like-minded people”, said Rob Mannion.
