The Birmingham Young Professionals of the Year awards (BYPY) celebrates and rewards the most talented individuals within Birmingham’s burgeoning business community.
Magdalena Tulacz is nominated for the much coveted Aspiring Talent award while Ben Smith will compete in the Recruitment and Training category.
Final-year Business and Management student, Magdalena, recently completed a 12-month work placement with professional services giant, Ernst and Young, in their Asset Management department.
She dealt directly with clients and became involved in university events, travelling to campuses across the UK to speak about career opportunities in accounting. After graduating in July, Magdalena will return to Ernst and Young to work full-time.
She said: “This year, BYPY received a record number of applications so I am absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted. Birmingham has provided me with many great opportunities over the years. I am delighted that I will be able to celebrate my own success as well as the city’s.”

Ben Smith has shown much entrepreneurial endeavour since graduating in 2009, setting-up and running two businesses. His passion for social enterprise found an outlet in BKSK Inspire, which he co-founded to help young people from low-attainment backgrounds develop their own companies.
He also established Frumtious, a natural food business producing healthy, fruit-based snacks in an attempt to counter growing rates of obesity among adults and especially children.
Aston students have had previous success at the BYPY awards, with Business and Management graduate, Anisa Haghdadi, winning the Aspiring Talent award in 2012.
Candidates for a BYPY award compete in six different categories. The overall winner is chosen from the winners of each category and named Birmingham Young Professional of the Year. Alongside these categories, the BYPY also recognises those aged 16 – 24 who are in full-time or Higher Education with the Aspiring Talent award.
The BYPY awards ceremony will take place on 1 May at the International Convention Centre. Tickets can be booked here.
