Top Birmingham employer networks with Aston students

Deutsche Bank event Nov 2015

23rd November 2015

On Thursday last week, a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate Aston students took advantage of a fantastic opportunity to attend a Speed Networking event with top employer Deutsche Bank.

Organised by Aston Business School, the event gave students the opportunity to find out more about placement and graduate scheme vacancies, by networking with employees of Deutsche Bank in divisions including Corporate Finance, Compliance, Operations and Technology.

Deutsche Bank employ 2,000 staff at their Birmingham office and was recently placed 62 out of 300 in the Guardian UK 300 top graduate employers in 2015 to 2016. The bank was shortlisted in the Target Jobs awards 2015 as one of the best graduate recruiters in the investment banking and investment sector.

This was the third time Deutsche Bank had come to ABS to run a similar event, after previous events had proven so successful. Several students who attended the last event went on to successfully gain graduate positions with the bank, and three of them came back this time round to share their experiences as Deutsche Bank employees. Current students particularly appreciated the opportunity to hear from recent Aston graduates about working for the bank and the recruitment process.

Aston Business School enjoy a close relationship with Deutsche Bank in Birmingham and well over 10% of the bank's graduate population come from Aston. Placement applicants are even more successful with between 60 and 70% of the placement Year opportunities awarded to Aston students.

Students attending last week's event were studying a variety of degrees with Aston Business School, including Accounting for Management and Finance, as well as MSc programmes in International Business, Human Resource Management and Business and Investment Analysis.  The speed networking format of the evening meant each student was able to speak to Deutsche Bank staff and discuss their individual circumstances on a one to one basis.

Each student left with a greater insight into each division of the bank so that they are able to make an informed decision about applying to graduate scheme vacancies.

Aston Business School runs a series of networking events with key local employers, the next of which will be with BPS Aspire on Thursday 27th January.
