Aston ranked in the top 30 of UK universities

Aston shines in university rankings

Aston University has been ranked 29th out of 127 UK universities in The Complete University Guide 2017, with three of its subject areas rated in the top ten in the country.

This is the eighth time Aston University has been placed in a top 30 position. The University also has three top ten UK subject ratings in the independent guide:

  • Opthalmics (2nd )
  • Aural and Oral Sciences (4th
  • Pharmacology and Pharmacy (10th )

Other strong performing subjects at Aston placed in the UK's top 20 subjects are:

  • Building (11th)
  • Marketing (13th)
  • Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering (17th)
  • Social Policy (17th)

Aston's 'student satisfaction level' was also ranked highly, scoring 4.17 out of five, placing Aston University joint 16th in the UK. The University is also in the top 10 for the number of students obtaining 
1 st and 2:1 degrees (9th) and has scored highly for its degree completion rate, with a ranking of 18th in the country. Aston is renowned for its graduate employability success and this is confirmed by The Complete University Guide with a top 25 position.

The impartial guide, which provides prospective and current students with a comprehensive overview of universities, analyses everything from academic strengths and research through to facilities, student support and student satisfaction.

Aston was also recently ranked in the top 30 in The Sunday Times/Times Good University Guide.

Dr Bernard Kingston, principal author of, said: “There is a considerable degree of stability at the upper end of the league table this year. While dramatic changes may be newsworthy, this stability indicates that the rankings are robust and credible for young people seeking a university place – our primary purpose.”

Aston University’s Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Helen Higson, said: “This guide offers potential students an independent view of specific subject areas and highlights another strong subject performance from Aston University.  I am delighted to see we have achieved such a high student satisfaction rating this year, echoing our highest ever satisfaction level in the latest National Student Survey. The results in this year’s table are testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff here at Aston and Aston’s continuing commitment to improvement.”
