Aston awarded exceptional five star rating

  • Aston wins five star rating for excellence in teaching, employability, innovation, facilities, inclusiveness, and internationalisation.
  • Flying-colours result places Aston in a small, exclusive group of outstanding UK institutions.

Global higher education consultants QS Intelligence Unit have awarded Aston an exceptional five star rating following a comprehensive audit.

Only a selective and small group of UK institutions have been awarded such an excellent score. 

The ‘5 star’ rating is broken down by category and Aston has achieved: 

  • 5 stars for Teaching
    Measures student satisfaction with teaching, overall student satisfaction, and the ratio of teaching staff to students.
  • 5 stars for Employability
    Measures graduate employment rate, links with employers through employer presence on campus, and the level of support offered to students through careers service staff.
  • 5 stars for Innovation
    Measures the number of registered patents, the number of spin-off companies, and the volume of industrial research relating to the University.
  • 5 stars for Facilities
    Measures the volume and quality of sports, medical, IT, accommodation and library facilities, in addition to the number of student societies available to students.
  • 5 stars for Inclusiveness
    Measures the amount of money spent by the University on scholarships and bursaries for students, the gender balance of students, proportion of students from low income backgrounds, and the accessibility of the campus for disabled students. 
  • 5 stars for Internationalisation   
    Measures proportion of international students, proportion of international staff, international diversity in terms of the number of different nationalities represented on campus, academic exchange opportunities, and religious facilities.

QS Stars are recognised worldwide by students, schools and universities as being a rigorous and prestigious benchmark, which are an indication of the strength and stature of an institution across a series of measures which matter most to potential international students.
