EBRI to showcase the future of energy

This month, businesses and the general public will have the opportunity to find out about the latest energy efficiency ideas and technologies as part of EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2017.

Several universities across the Midlands that are part of the Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) initiative are holding events and activities to mark the week, from 19 to 25 June.

EUSEW aims to promote good practice in energy-saving and the use of renewables. This year’s theme is ‘clean energy’, and the events taking place highlight the need for the world to find a solution to the reliance on fossil fuels, and will explore some of the cutting-edge research taking place in the development of renewable energy technology.

Gordon Waddington, Chief Executive of the Energy Research Accelerator (ERA), said: “There is an urgent need for the world to move towards the use of clean technologies in order to start to address the issue of climate change. At ERA, we are investing in state-of-the art research and facilities to support the move towards green energy.

“I would encourage business people and members of the public to take a look at the events on offer during EU Sustainable Energy Week, as they provide useful advice and information about practical steps that can be taken to save energy, and they also offer an opportunity to see some of the cutting-edge energy research being undertaken by leading experts.”

In the run-up to the EU Sustainable Energy Week, the European Bioenergy Research Institute (EBRI) at Aston University is running a range of courses and events, including a two day masterclass focusing on bioenergy. The masterclass on 14 to 15 June covers the technical and commercial fundamentals of bioenergy for companies wanting to introduce new products and services. For more information see this short video

EBRI has also organised a special event in central Birmingham on 21 June for businesses looking for new opportunities in the £13 billion smart grid energy and £12 billion bioenergy markets. The event is designed for companies looking to develop new products and services as well as those that want to better understand the bioenergy market.

The partner organisations involved in the Energy Research Accelerator are the Midlands Innovation universities of Aston, Birmingham, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Warwick, and also the British Geological Survey (BGS).
