Aston University is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Pro-Vice-Chancellors.

Professor Sarah Hainsworth is our new Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science and Saskia Loer Hansen is now Pro-Vice Chancellor International.

Sarah joins us from the University of Leicester where she was Head of Engineering and Professor of Materials and Forensic Engineering. She is an elected fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering – the highest honour for an engineer in the UK. She is a highly successful academic leader with demonstrable impact and quality as both a researcher and a teacher.

Saskia Loer Hansen was Executive Director, Global Development and Performance at RMIT University in Melbourne, where she had responsibility for the University’s transnational education partnerships and global relations. She has extensive experience of working in senior positions at universities across the world.

Professor Alec Cameron, Vice Chancellor of Aston University, said: “With the appointment of Sarah and Saskia, we have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience that will push our University forwards. Both have demonstrated an exceptional degree of leadership and impact in their previous roles and I look forward to welcoming them to Aston.”

Sarah said: “I am delighted to be joining Aston as the new PVC and Executive Dean for the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Aston’s industrial heritage and strong track record of encouraging students into work-based placements attracted me to this role in the heart of the UK engineering industry. I very much look forward to working with colleagues and leading a vibrant school with excellent teaching and research.”

Saskia said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the role of PVC International at Aston University. I look forward to working with colleagues across the University in further progressing Aston's international agenda on my arrival to Aston in early September. I have been impressed by the vibe and the positive atmosphere at Aston, and I am really excited to be able to join the team and to further shape the international opportunities for the university.”

Both Sarah and Saskia will take up post in September 2017.
