Aston University student Abigail Holden, from Bewdley, was awarded the Thomas More Scholarship from Lincoln’s Inn – one of four Inns of Court and the largest by student count. It will cover her fees for the Bar Professional Training Course, which will allow her to qualify as a barrister.
The scholarship was awarded to Abigail following her application and interview before senior barristers of the Inn. The award reflects Abigail’s intellectual abilities and her clear commitment to pursuing a career as a barrister.
Abigail said: “I am extremely grateful to Lincoln's Inn for providing me with such a generous scholarship.
“The interview was one of the most challenging experiences I have encountered. I am extremely thankful for the advice I received from lecturer, Adam Shaw-Mellors, who provided me with guidance and support from his previous experiences, which I needed when completing the application process.
“This scholarship has increased my confidence dramatically, as it shows that you can achieve anything with hard work and determination.”
Adam Shaw-Mellors, law lecturer at Aston University, said: “I am delighted Abigail has received this award. Abigail has embraced the activities available to students in Aston Law School, such mooting and the student law society. Her academic successes and her participation in numerous extra-curricular activities means she has developed an outstanding profile, which this award reflects.”
