The Concordat details a set of key principles and best practice to support the career development of researchers. The Concordat was developed by the Research Councils and other major funders, and Universities UK signed up to the Concordat on behalf of all universities.
Aston is committed to the Concordat's implementation, both because it helps the development of individual researchers and because we believe that implementing the Principles of the Concordat will contribute to sustaining the high quality research environment we already have at Aston. In 2009 we put in place an initial Action Plan to address areas where we thought we could improve, and in October 2010 we were awarded the HR Excellence in Research Award in recognition of our work. Research Committee has been monitoring implementation of the Action Plan.
In September 2012 we have revisited the Concordat and re-mapped our provisions and practices against the key principles. The full Mapping document and Action Plan demonstrates both how much progress we have made, but also how we continue to strive for improvements. A short Review Report summarises our key achievements and progress, as well as giving details of our next steps. The Mapping document and Action Plan and the Review Report formed our submission for renewal of the HR Excellence in Research Award, and confirmation was received in January 2013 of approval of the submission and a further two-year period before the next review.
This next review of the Action Plan for continued improvement against Concordat Key Principles for the period of September 2014 - September 2017 was undertaken in 2014 and a 2 year Review Report summarises our key achievements, progress and next steps from this Action Plan.
