This page and documents linked to it highlight the work that Aston has done to support the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers. The Concordat was put in place by the Research Councils, other major funders, and employers of researchers including Universities UK in 2008, and details a set of key principles and best practice to support the career development of researchers.  

Aston is committed to the Concordat's implementation for two reasons: first, it underpins our commitment to sustain and improve the high quality research environment that we already have at Aston; secondly, it demonstrates our commitment to the development of individual researchers.

Aston was first awarded the HR Excellence in Research Award in 2010. Since then, we have regularly reviewed our practices and provisions. We made a successful submission for the award again in 2013, and put into place a four year action plan for the period 2013-2017.

We have now completed an interim report covering progress and key achievements made in the period December 2016 – November 2018; it paints a very positive picture of our achievements and sets out our plans to deliver further progress against the Concordat’s Principles. We have re-issued a new Action plan to cover the period (March 2019 – March 2021).

Our aim is to see research staff who are even more engaged and active in their own career development, supported by managers and mentors who fully understand the needs of research staff, working in an environment where they can progress and thrive.
