The Office of the General Counsel is located in the Main Building in room G60C.

If you are unsure whether or not you require legal advice, please contact Legal Services using  legalservices@aston.ac.uk and from 1 February 2019, OGC@aston.ac.uk. Alternatively, if you have an instruction, please refer to our Referrals page, so you are able to contact the designated member of the team.

If you would like to access one of the many templates that we publish for use by colleagues, please refer to the page entitled “Template Agreements”.

If you have any questions about a draft or would like advice from the Office of the General Counsel on a particular agreement, please contact the team in accordance with the procedure for all new instructions.

The Office of the General Counsel also maintains a number of documents that can be made available on receipt of a new instruction and, dependent on the nature of the project, a heads of terms. The details of these documents are set out on the page entitled “Documents available on request”.

Please note that entry into all agreements is subject to approval in accordance with the University’s scheme of delegations that is set out on the page entitled “Approval, Monitoring and Signatureof Contracts”. Colleagues requesting signatures from members of the Executive are required to complete a cover sheet recommending the agreement for approval and signature. A copy of the Cover Sheet can be downloaded from the page entitled “Approval, Monitoring and Signature of contracts”.

Please ensure that all signed original contracts are sent to the Office of the General Counsel for inclusion in the University’s central bank of agreements.  This allows the Office of the General Counsel to provide appropriate support in the event of any business continuity event or risk that arises under any contract entered into by the University.
