  • Applicants must possess a good honours degree (minimum lower 2nd class) from a recognised university in one of the following subjects (or a related field):

Course outline and what you will study

Our Pharmaceutical Science masters course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required for today’s pharmaceutical scientist.

You will gain the ability to provide effective pharmaceutical formulation strategies for current and future drug therapies and medicinal products. Throughout the course, you’ll enhance your understanding of the design, development and production of medicines as you learn about regulatory affairs and the drug industry.

The MSc Pharmaceutical Science provides modules that will also build your research methods and critical thinking skills for application both within and outside of academia. Our broad range of topics such as drug discovery, drug dosage form and design and chemotherapy and selective toxicity will ensure you possess the necessary skill set for a pharmaceutical scientist. In addition to this subject specific knowledge, you will also develop highly desirable transferable skills in presenting, team working, report writing, critical analysis, negotiating and data analysis.

Upon completion of our course, you’ll be prepared for various careers in the pharmaceutical industry such as analytical sciences, formulation development, project management, regulatory affairs, scientific writing and further studies.

Learning, teaching, assessment and staff

Teaching on the course is delivered via a variety of methods including lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. Some modules may also use computer modelling and simulation sessions.

You will be assessed by a mixture of coursework, examinations, practical work and oral and written presentations. The research project module will be assessed on the basis of a submitted project report and an oral defense of a poster.

There are over 50 teaching and research staff in Aston Pharmacy School, and your learning will be influenced by the world-class research conducted here to ensure that your education is at the forefront of this rapidly changing field.
